The Winfield Recreation Council, located in Carroll County, Maryland, has adopted cricket as a new sport for Summer 2012. Cricket will join other WRC sports, such as baseball, football, basketball and soccer next year, as more and more community sports leagues add the game to their rosters. The Winfield Rec Council expects the program to draw from the thousands of county schoolchildren now playing cricket in PE class, thanks to the USYCA Schools Program.
WRC President Ed Beane said, "Cricket provides youth in our area with another alternative in recreation council programs and activities, and we are willing to support and assist USYCA to help make it successful by offering field space as well as help promoting planned activities."
"USYCA is excited to be partnering with the Winfield Recreation Council in offering cricket to the children of Carroll County," President Jamie Harrison said. "This program will be a wonderful complement to the cricket being played in area schools, and we anticipate a great turnout next summer."
