The United States Youth Cricket Association is pleased to announce
the addition of two new affiliates, the Orange County (CA) Youth Cricket
Association, and the New Jersey Youth Cricket Association.
The OCYCA, operating under the direction of the Orange County Cricket
Association, is led by Shantha Suraweera. Shantha is the president of
the OCCA, and together with his Youth Cricket Development Committee, has
trained eight Level 1 coaches. Shantha has already approached the
Superintendent of Orange County Schools about cricket, and is eager to
move aggressively forward with the USYCA Schools Program.
Ashok Patel, the founder and President of the USA Cricket Academy in
Old Bridge, New Jersey, will direct the NJYCA. In the past seven years,
Ashok has taken youth teams to tournaments in Barbados, Trinidad, Wales,
India and Sri Lanka, in addition to domestic events, often personally
bearing the entire travel expense of his players' participation.
"The USYCA is excited to have experienced youth cricket leaders such
as Shantha and Ashok joining us," said USYCA President Jamie Harrison.
“We look forward to supporting their efforts to introduce our great game
to schools in Orange County and New Jersey."
