Orange County Youth Cricket Association delivered an American Cricket Champ set to Anaheim Hills Elementary School on May 19. Shantha Suraweera, President of Orange County Cricket Association (OCCA) organized this event, with OCCA past President Abid Hussain.
Mr. Chris Tanioka coordinated this event with one other teacher. Sixty-five students were given a good description on the basics of how to play, and the rules necessary to start and enjoy the game of cricket. As usual, students were very enthusiastic and eager to learn what was to them a this new sport, and had a lot of questions.
Students participated in an 8-over cricket match, which was their first experience playing cricket. It was like a real game, with Abid acting as head umpire. The students were able to understand the game quickly, and there were catches taken, run outs, one stumping and of course bowled outs. One student bowled a YORKER and soon realized the effectiveness of that bowl.
It was a very pleasant event enjoyed by not only the students, but also the teachers and the OCCA.
